I had some cardstock, small cello bags and a rubber stamp. i gathered my supplies while he made a quick trip to Walmart for the Hershey kisses.
First thing was to cut some squares from white cardstock and stamp with a Valentine stamp. Next I cut the red cardstock to fit the top of the bags and doubled it to fold in half.
The bags were filled with Hershey kisses and the top rolled down and stapled.
Then the bag topper was slid down over the top of the bag and stapled.

Cut 2 rectangles of fabric -- I used 19 inches wide and 16 inches long for a size 5 top.
For size 4 -5 I measure in 2 inches from the sides and 4 inches down from the top. mark a cure where the 2 measurements meet. sew the side seams.then do the armholes. I normally serge my edges and turn in and top stitch. If I am making the pillowcase dress for a gift or for dressier wear I put a bias binding on the armholes.
Mark the center front and center back of the top.
For the ruffle cut a strip of fabric from the cross wise of fabric x 3 1/2 to 4 inches wide. I would not use a strip wider than 45 inches due to the elastic might not stretch that much.. Sew the ends together right sides together. Do a rolled hem on the edges. If you don't have a serger you could do a narrow hem. Just cut the ruffle wider to allow for the hem.
Mark the ruffle strip in 1/4s. Match up the `1/2 mark to the center front and center back marks on the top.
Cut a piece of 1/8 inch elastic the width you need your neck to be- I used the measurement for the elastic from my peasant top pattern which is simp 3743- for a size 5 it is 20 1/4 inch . I will look and post the rest of the elastic measurements at the end. mark the elastic in 1/4's too.
Stitch aligning 1/4 and 1/2 marks using a small zigzag stitch or a straight stitch. You will stretch the elastic to fit the fabric as you stitch.
