More upcycling

I look at the sheets and pillowcases when I go in Goodwill these days. I usually think I might use the pillowcases to make pillowcase dresses -- and I have found some good ones to use for that too. I have gotten a few sheets to use to line aline dresses with or I sometimes think I may use them for a quilt backing.. not that I am making that many quilts.. maybe one baby quilt in the last year.

One day recently I found a dark red Ralph Lauren sheet. I intended to use it for linings-- and I did and then I used it for a dress and for a skort. It had been washed enough times to be nice and soft but not worn at all. So far none of the sheets I have bought there have been worn. In the beginning I have to admit I felt a little funny about buying someone elses sheets to use but then I thought , heck, I don't mind sleeping on sheets that someone else has slept on in a hotel so why not?

So without further adieu.. The dress is the Lillian pattern from Children's Corner for Madison and the skort is Sara's Skort also by Children's Corner. I also used the sheet to line the little crossback outfit for Abby. So all in all I think I got a lot of mileage from the sheet from Goodwill for $1.99.

Little Cupcake for Nana's Little Cupcake

I enjoyed making the overalls so much that I wanted to make something else for Abby. After browsing Goodwill I found these little jeans. I wasn't quite sure what I would do to them when I found them but knew i would figure it out

Well the other day I was in Joann fabrics and saw this cupcake fabric. I knew instantly what I would do.

I cut the pants off and cut a ruffle 5 inches to add to the bottom of the legs. This results in a 2 inch doubled ruffle with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. I added the pink rick -rack and pink with brown polka dot ribbon for the legs. the t shirt I also made using one of the cupcake squares satin stitched to the front. The finishing touch is the machine embroidery wording.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentines Day!!!

Thought I would share what we did for our sweet 6 little valentines.  I started a few years ago getting balloons for the grands for Valentine's Day. They get enough candy other places and at school parties. They always seen to like the balloons and they get a little candy and a card too.

This year I added cookies too. I don't have the talent for cookie decorating that I see on some blogs. I am totally jealous of some of the cookies I see decorated with royal icing. WOW

Anyway , these are 4 inch heart shaped cookies decorated with buttercream frosting tinted pink. The recipe for the cookies is the Wilton roll out cookie recipe. I know I could have gooten cookies at Walmart but mine have an ingredient that Walmart doesn't us-----Love.

I bought a total of 12 balloons-- 3 each for 4 grandkids who live nearby. I have asked my daughter living out of town to get balloons for me for Wyatt and Abby. Shhh,, don't tell them but I mailed their cookies.

Well back to the story I was in Dollar Tree on Saturday and decided to go on and get the  balloons. Tripp and Madison were spending the night that night so I had to hide the balloons. Have you ever tried to get 12 mylar balloons in a closet under the stairs-- not easy but not impossible. They were none the wiser.

I love this bright fabric and couldn't pass it up when I saw it in the local quilt store a few weeks ago.

I simply measured Madison's waist and added about 6 inches for the top pink section. Then for the next 2 sections  I cut the strips the 45 inch length of the fabric and gathered to the top section.

It passed the smile test. M smiled really big when she saw it. So I guess that makes it a winner for me.
