Upcycled overalls- from not so cute to cute

Guess what I found at Goodwill--- a pair of overalls for Abby. At our local Goodwill everything to  a size 2 is 99 cents. So it is really a bargain if I find something suitable. So anyway on my recent trip to visit I took them to Abby.  My daughter asked if they would look too much like a boy on her and I told not when I was finished.

You'll have to let me know if I succeded in "girling" them up.

First, I removed the pocket from the bib area of the overalls.

Next, I cut about 2 1/2 inches off the legs.

Then, I used the piece that I cut off to cut the folded ruffle by and added 1/2 inch for a seam.

Then , I cut a piece to cover the bib area. This was a little tricky and I mostly just laid it on top of the bib   area and pressed under the edges to make it match and then trimmed away the excess.

After stitching the ruffle on and stitching the piece on the bib I sewed rickrack on the ruffle on the legs and the upper and lower edge of the bib.

We were pretty pleased with how they turned out. If I had been at home where my embroidery machine was I would have added a monogram to the bib and maybe some embroideries to the legs.

I think she likes them too. Just look at that chubby little doll baby.

thanks for looking,

Lavender Knit Dress

I had this knit in my stash-- I think I got it on the $1.50 table at Walmart. It really was a pain to sew. the edges rolled so bad.
Anyway, I used the Kwik Sew knit shirt pattern and shortened it. Then I cut and gathered panels for the skirt. When I serged the seam where the skirt is sewn to the bodice I caught the bodice in the seam and cut a hole. To fix it I made one of the rolled flowers and so glad I did because I really liked how it looked.

An upcycled apron for E K

As most little girls do, my 6 year old granddaughter Emma Kate likes to play restaurant and be a waitress. And what does a waitress need-- An apron of course. It also required pockets to hold her order book and pen.
The other night they came by for a visit and they brought a pillowcase and ribbon and asked if I could use that to make an apron. Well of course I was sure I could.

So this is what I came up with and I think it is pretty darn cute.

First, I turned up the open end of the pillowcase because it had such a cute border. I turned it up 8 inches and topstitched  the sides.  then I sewed 2 more vertical lines to form pockets.

Then, I moved up about 4 inches and cut off the top of the pillowcase.

Next ,I cut a band 5"x14" and gathered the apron to fit this leaving the band extended 1/2 " past the apron on each end. After sewing the apron to the band- I turned the band right sides together after turning up a  1/2 " hem on the band and sandwiched the ribbon in the ends and sewed the ends. Then top stitch the band where it meets the apron. And we are done.

I think she will be a happy little girl when she sees her apron.

Snow Day

We haven't had this much snow here in a very long time. This time it was better still with no ice or sleet under it. Not nearly as treacherous. Since school was closed and I was off work I was keeping 2 of the grandkids. We took them to my mother in law's house to play in the snow. She lives on a quiet street with a big hill. There was almost too much snow for th esled to go though but we had fun anyway.

Snuggly Scarves and Hat

I've been crocheting lately after several years of no crochet. A friend shared the pattern fo rthe scarves and I used an online  free pattern from another blog for the hat. I found a tutorial for the crocheted flower on another blog. I'm sorry but I don't remember the name of  the blog.
The first scarf is made using the fleck yarn from Walmart.

I found the link to the free pattern i followed for the hat. I surely want to give credit where credit is due. Thanks
