Think Spring

I am beginning to really get in the mood to sew for spring now. I have made a commitment to myself to try to make each of the 4 youngest grandkids 10 spring/summer outfits each. I normally make that many things for them but never before the season starts. So I will at least try to share most of those here.

First,this is a little.

peasant top and capris I made
for Emma Kate using fabric from

Next,I used the Martha Pullen aline pattern shortened to make Madison

a top to coordinate with capris. the fabrics for these 2 outfits
are from my fabric stash. I am also trying to sew some from
the stash. In reality this will only make room for more but what's a
girl to do?

Finally i feel like I am thawing out here.

I am beginning to get in the mood for spring sewing. I have been pouring over some of the children's clothing sites searching for inspiration. Yesterday I bought several pieces of fabric for spring as well. There is a pretty pale blue broadcloth to make a bishop for Madison for Easter. I bought royal blue broadcloth for shortalls for Wyatt and Dylan. Also in the stack is enough fabric for 4 other little dresses. that is enough to get me started-- but then there are 2 shelves for fabric in my sewing room. Not so sure I needed to shop for fabric any way but I still love it.

Cold Thursday

We are having a really cold spell right now. It was 6 degrees here yesterday morning before work. Now that is cold for Mississippi.

We had a little snow last night and this morning. I know for sure there were a lot of happy kids-- no school today or tomorrow. Yea for them.

I am starting to think about spring sewing. No outfits planned as of yet but soon...

It will be so nice to work in the yard and plant flowers.Love digging in the dirt.

I have so many things I want to do when spring arrives. The kitchen cabinets are stained and have tin punched panels in the top doors. I want to change the doors to recessed panel doors, sand and paint the cabinets. I know you must be thinking why does it need to be spring for that -- well of course so I can open windows to help air out the paint smell.

But for now I will just snuggle under a blanket and stay warm.

It is cold here in the south lately. Not sure what the temp was this morning but it was 18 degrees yesterday morning and 17 on Saturday morning. I hate cold weather-- especially with no snow.

We hardly ever get snow here though. When we do it is usually on a layer of ice which makes for scarier driving. Being in the south we just aren't prepared for it.

Speaking of the cold I think it is time for some hot chocolate-- you know the kind-- nice and steamy hot chocolate with a little mountain of whipped cream on top. yummy

Happy New Year

I guess I am officially a day late with the New Year wishes but I do hope that 2010 will be the best year ever for everyone.

I finally got the last of the Christmas decorations to the attic yesterday. I love Christmas and the decorations but by the time Christmas is over I am ready to put it all up and get the house back in order.

This year I am hoping to do more heirloom sewing. I want to learn some new sewing techniques. I have only done minimal heirloom sewing for Emma Kate and Madison. Their mommas don't care for lace-- never wanted to wear it themselves as children.

So hopefully before too long there will be some pictures to share. These are a couple of pictures of a dress I made last year. Actually I made 2 of these-- a pink one for Emma kate and blue one for Madison.
