I have had a fun time the last few days. Wyatt and Lindley were here for a few days. Emma Kate and Dylan spent the night one night and Madison and Tripp spent the night one night. It was nice for the cousins to be together. They need to know each other. i meant to get a picture of all 5 of them together but it just didn't happen.

I haven't sewn any thing in the past week so I thought I would share the latest jon jons that I made Wyatt.

The turquois plaid jon jon is fabric from Patsy Aiken's sale at Chez Ami. I have to say the picture doesn't do the fabic justice.

This next jon jon is a dark green gingham. The smocking plate is named "Goin' Buggy". The pattern for both of these is Johnny by Childrens Corner.

It is a beautiful sunny day already today. Our weather has certainly been gorgeous the past few day---high in the 80s and lows in the 60s.

I haven't decided on my next sewing project yet. I almost always have something either started or know what I want to do. Maybe it is spring fever.

Would you like to see my azelea blooms? I have several-- 8-10 in my back yard. They are one of my favorites.

Strawberry Bon Bon

Well, I finished the dress I mentioned on Monday that I was working on. It was in Issue No. 73 of Australian Smocking and Embroidery Magazine. The name of the dress is Strawberry Bon Bon. The pattern and smocking plate are in the article. I think this dress will be gorgeous on Emma Kate with her coloring-- Pretty dark hair and pretty dark eyes. It is to be a gift for her birthday and I will be making a matching doll dress as well.

Strawberry Pie Tuesday

Today I made a strawberry pie so I thought I would share a picture and the recipe. I have been making this same strawberry pie for years and can't remember where I originally got the recipe but it is very good and very easy.

Strawberry Pie

Bake a single 9inch deep dish pie crust and cool.
While th pie crust is baking and cooling prepare 1 quart fresh strawberries.

Combine:
3/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 cups water

Mix sugar and cornstarch well and stir in water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 minutes or until thick and clear. Remove from heat and stir in 1 small package of strawberry jello. Stir until well mixed and pour over strawberries. Cool in the refigerator and enjoy.

Happy Monday

It is a nice sunny day here in the south-- still a little cool this morning but sunny none the less. i love the sunshine.

Today I am working on a little sundress for Emma Kate for her birthday in June. It will be one of her gifts along with a matching doll dress which she will also get the doll to go with.

I will share a picture of the dress when it is finished. It is made from a pattern in the Australian Smocking and Embroidery Magazine.

I also thought I would share a picture of my irises and of the arbor if I can figure out just how to get them here.

April 18, 2009

Hi!! I have decided on jump on the blog bandwagon. Please bear with me while I figure out what I am doing.

I am nana to 5 of the cutest and sweetest grandchildren you have ever seen---ages 9 months to 6 years old.

One of the things I enjoy is sewing for the grandkids and I'll share pictures and thoughts on this from time to time. I have done a little heirlom sewing and would love to learn to do more and better things. I enjoy smocking for the kids too.

I also enjoy gardening--- I didn't say I was that good at it but I do enjoy it. I don't have a green thumb but I do love digging in the dirt. The love of gardening is the influence for the title of my blog. I have an arbor that is covered in wisteria blooms jsut now and it is a very peacefull place to sit and relax.

please come and visit often-- the door is open.
